"The very least you can do in your life is figure out what you hope for. And the most you can do is live inside that hope. Not admire it from a distance but live right in it, under its roof.” - Barbara Kingsolver

To my dear fellow Bonjour Marketplace members,

Quoting Barbara Kingsolver's words, I'd like to share with you my initial purpose of setting up the Bonjour Wechat purchase group. In the afternoon of this March 25th, I called up three people, inviting them to join me deliver some quality raw food ingredients to our members. The intention was to ensure that families, who purchased from Bonjour, would be immured from the coronavirus. Such a simple initial intent made it hard for them to refuse. Regrettably, in the past 35 days, within our members, two members of one family had been tested positive. But, on the bright side, the spread of the virus has stabilized. We have no way of predicting the future, but when presented with a disastrous challenge, we have effectively coped with it head on, just like the PEI potatoes that came to BC by air.

1. Due to the transportation difficulty created by the coronavirus situation, the PEI potatoes were shipped to BC by air.

2. The farmers Bonjour works with are all small time farm owners. I never consider myself "supporting" them because I couldn't thank them enough for providing us with such quality food material!

3. Compared with the average large-scale farm, the hard work put in by small farmers is beyond words.

We've all had the experience of accidentally bumping into something, causing a bruise mark. If the bruise is being treated with an ice pack or ointment in time, then the bruising would reduce drastically. In nature, living food experiences the same. How could a potato avoid bumping into other things while being dug up? How could their skin be not wrinkled, not covered with mud, and appeared fresh and washed?

Again, I'd like to thank all of you for supporting Bonjour's efforts, without which all the potatoes would have become worthless in the ground. Bonjour's persistence in protecting the natural environment, together with a small contribution from each of us, will make this world a better place. I'm very fortunate to have the opportunity during this difficult time to care about a stranger like you as if my own family. Now, through words, allow me to plead with you like a family: please take good care of yourself. Humans cannot live in isolation for too long, relying only on the internet to connect with the world, but we could take advantage of such time to contemplate on this: how to think far and wide about our own and our family's long term goal, in respect to the future relationship between virus and human and an evolving economical behavior.

I'm in charge of Bonjour. I promise: I will assist every family to have healthy food ingredients to meet the most basic needs of human beings and strive to work even harder to make it a reality!
